Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are an esthetic dental restoration in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.

The direct technique usually involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.

The indirect technique usually involves two appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.

Each porcelain laminate is a work of art, carefully crafted in a laboratory to fit your individual smile. In the hands of a highly skilled cosmetic dentist like Dr. Smallberg and Satornino, porcelain laminates can provide you with an incredibly natural, beautiful smile. They are virtually undetectable and can dramatically improve your appearance.

The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are recommended for specific situations. Unlike most dental offices, our office will do a full occlusal (bite) evaluation prior to planning your veneers. This minimizes any functional problems (chipping, veneers popping off) in the future.

Teeth Whitening with Less Sensitivity

This service makes the teeth whiter, and therefore more attractive and younger looking. Our office uses three methods: in-office whitening plus at-home trays, at-home tray whitening only, and professional strength white strips.

The tray method involves having impressions taken from which laboratory fabricated custom vinyl trays are made. We use the exclusive Kör® Whitening lab and materials for the most effective results with the least amount of side effects. Kör® Whitening is so effective, it can be used to treat even the most stubborn stains, like tetracycline staining. With this method, we can make you the most accurately fitting whitening trays. Based on the severity of your staining, different methods are used to treat you. This may involve in office treatments, and/or at home whitening. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be used every several months. We especially recommend this product for patients worried about tooth sensitivity after whitening, which has been a problem with other brands and methods of whitening.

By using Kör® Whitening, you can have whiter teeth, without using a light to activate the whitening gel in our office, which is the cause of much tooth sensitivity in patients. Also, all Kör® Whitening gels are continuously refrigerated from the time of storage in the company’s warehouse, during shipping, and stored in a refrigerator in our office. This way, the gels can be produced, free of chemical stabilizers, which can cause tooth sensitivity. Our office will work with you on the recommended at-home protocol to avoid sensitivity.

For those who are on a budget, we offer professional strength Crest® Whitestrips. They are the least expensive option. However, they are the least accurate, because the trays are not customized.

Tooth Bonding

Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to restore the tooth after decay is removed, close gaps between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material adheres to the surface. Then the material itself is placed on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is shaped and polished to get a lustrous finish as a last step.

Clear Braces

Drs. Smallberg and Satornino are both certified Invisalign® providers. They can use this product to correct functional or cosmetic dental problems. Unlike other dental offices, your proper bite is always taken into consideration, when we treat you.

Invisalign® takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth.

Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your dentist plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete.

You’ll achieve a great smile with little interference in your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.
