Why Choose Us

Why Choose Our Westbury, NY Dental Practice

Unlike most dentists, Drs. Smallberg and Satornino will approach your oral health by practicing Complete Dentistry, a concept they learned through their advanced education at The Dawson Academy. By emphasizing prevention, early detection, and treatment of disease, tooth wear, and functional problems, Drs. Smallberg and Satornino will be able to identify the signs of dental problems before any symptoms and damage appear. This will save you from experiencing pain, spending money toward costly and repeated treatments, and taking time off from work for multiple and lengthy appointments.

Experience Quality Dental Care Tailored to You

From your first appointment, you’ll notice an immediate difference in the dedicated care you receive. That’s because as a graduate of The Dawson Academy—a place where dentists learn to be better dentists—Drs. Smallberg and Satornino belong to only 10% of dentists in the country who practice Complete Dentistry. Through proper diagnosis and treatment planning, you’ll be able to receive treatments more conservatively, allowing you to keep as much of your natural tooth structure as possible and help you maintain a healthy smile for your lifetime.

Drs. Smallberg and Satornino completed the University of Kentucky’s TMD and Orofacial Pain Mini-Residency Program and are also Diplomates of the ABDSM (Dental Sleep Medicine Organization). Their knowledge and experience working with TMJ patients are unmatched, and they can provide contemporary therapies to alleviate discomfort and restore optimal function.

Our Technology

Digital Impression Scanner

Forget all of that goo in your mouth! Instead of using those old-fashioned trays with impression material to be set in your mouth, we can now use a wand with a light that passes over your teeth. The image comes up in real time on our screen. You can even watch the scan appear on the screen as we do it.

We use this technology for many procedures, including crowns, bridges, Invisalign, nightguards, and implant crowns. We can even see what your bite looks like on the screen.

This technology allows us to send a digital file of your mouth to the dental lab by pressing a button. Thus, we can finish your dentistry faster and more accurately than ever before.

Digital X-Rays

This is a focused beam of X-ray particles through the bone that produces an image on a special film showing the structure through which it passes. This gives the familiar black-and-white images doctors and dentists use to diagnose problems. X-rays are a necessary part of the diagnostic process, and not using them could lead to undiagnosed disease. Without an X-ray of the whole tooth and supporting bone and gum tissues, there is no real way to detect infection or pathology that requires attention.

In our office, we use digital radiography, which allows us to take X-rays using 50-70% less radiation than conventional X-rays. Coupled with computer monitoring, digital X-ray technology allows us to enhance the images for better diagnosis of any dental concerns.

Digital Photography

Drs. Smallberg and Satornino frequently use digital photography to produce the best restorations possible for their patients. Our professional digital camera is customized for dental photography, which gives us an advantage.

We can communicate with dental labs regarding the specific shade your restoration needs. This is particularly helpful for front teeth, especially if they do not have one shade throughout.

We also use a series of photos of your face and mouth at different angles and distances to plan more complex cases. This is a routine part of your comprehensive occlusal evaluation. If you are having TMJ problems or need a more complex workup to restore your mouth, the doctors will recommend this.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera can take a close-up photo of your tooth or gums inside your mouth. The doctors use a wand-like device attached to a computer. With the click of a button, they can take a close-up picture inside your mouth, instantly appearing on the computer screen and becoming part of your electronic chart.

Doctors can use this device to show you more detail about a problem on a big screen. They can also use it to communicate with your insurance company to help with faster reimbursement of your benefits in certain circumstances.
